KOALAS and KANGAROOS and CROCS oh my!!!
Our first stop on this trip HAD to be to the Steve Irwin Zoo, North of Brisbane! Petting, playing with, and holding koalas and kangaroos was right at the top of our AU Bucket List! The Australian Zoo is unique from American Zoos because you actually get to interact with the animals in their environment. There are these large enclosures that you get to walk into ,and the animals are just chilling there for you to walk up and pet and feed and take pictures with!
But Beware of Drop Bears!!!
Another requirement for this trip was to get to hold a koala also known as a Drop Bear to locals. Mom, dad, and I headed to the Koala enclosure where we stood in line to hold this sweet cuddly (high on Eucalyptus) koala. He just kinda latched on to you and felt like a shorter rough shag carpet. I would have taken him home, if they had only let me.
Next up was the Kangaroo Enclosure. Located on a few acres, there were probably 20+ kangaroos just lounging around trying to find any shade possible. We just happened to arrive in the middle of a heat wave, so shade was paramount! The kangaroos were kinda funny, they could care less what we were doing. They were totally, “Yeah Mate, I’m just gonna chill here while you take pictures of me.”
As we were walking through the bird area, one of the trainers was teaching a bird how to fly from one person to another. So I held out my arm and had a rather large bird fly over and take an Aussie Dollar out of my hand, fly back to a trainer, and then politely fly back to my arm and return the dollar! It was pretty neat!
Plus I got my dollar back 😉
The trip looks like a blast so far! I am so glad you got to hold a koala!! We miss you!
I miss you guys too!
